Transfer Students


Transfer students interested in applying to the Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics & Health Information Management program must apply both to the University of Washington and to the HIHIM program.

Minimum Admission Requirements

  • Completed the College Academic Distribution Requirements
  • Completed a minimum of 90 transferable quarter credits from a regionally accredited college or university by May 1 of the year you plan to apply
  • Earned a cumulative transfer GPA of 2.5 or higher in all transferable courses
  • Earned a grade of 2.0 or higher in each prerequisite course and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher in all prerequisite courses

Prerequisite Courses

Applicants to the HIHIM program must complete prerequisite courses in three subjects:

  • statistics (4–5 credits)
  • human anatomy and physiology (with lab preferred; 6 credits)
  • medical terminology (3–5 credits)

Applicants who have completed all prerequisites by the time they apply will have priority in the admissions process. Find out which classes qualify as prerequisites for statistics, human anatomy and physiology and medical terminology.

How to Apply

Transfer students must apply both to the UW and the HIHIM program. We recommend that you begin your applications early. All materials must be submitted by the application deadlines.

Step One: Apply to the University of Washington

To apply to the UW, submit the following:

Step Two: Apply to the Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics & Health Information Management program

To apply to the HIHIM program, submit the following:

  • HIHIM application form (Save the application to your computer. Application must be typed.)
  • One official transcript from each college or university previously attended
  • Statement of purpose (max. 500 words) that describes why you're interested in this program for your professional future, including two or three ways you see the program helping you achieve your career goals
  • Resume that highlights your relevant work or volunteer experience
